I would like to share with you a few key aspects about Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
TVET comprises formal, non-formal and informal learning for the world of work. The world of work includes being an entrepreneur. These qualifications can be acquired via apprenticeships and training programs where students work as apprentices for companies while completing courses at the College or through skills programs which lead to trade certification through the College.
Technical Education imparts knowledge of specific trade, craft or profession. Technical Education is key in meeting the expanding demands of society and to meet its multiplying demands. It is evident that the industries, mechanized systems and scientific research centres prove beyond doubt that using machines and technological devices for all-round development and regeneration of human society yield better results.
Technical Education is practical education, for example operating a computer, tailoring, carpentry, engineering, medical study, etc. are common technological areas. The study of lab engineering, agro technology etc. are the technical subjects.
Vocational Education Training is education that prepares the trainee for jobs or careers at various levels of – trade or craft. VET focuses on practical applications of skills learned, and education in vocational colleges is based on hands-on training.
Generally known as Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) it prepares people for specific trades, crafts and careers at various levels from a trade, craft, technician, or high professional practitioner position in careers such as engineering, accountancy, nursing, medicine, architecture, law etc. Craft vocations are usually based on manual or practical activities and are traditionally non-academic but related to a specific trade or occupation. It is sometimes referred to as technical education as the trainee directly develops expertise in a particular group of techniques.
It is important to note that vocational education can be at the Secondary, Post-secondary level, Further Education, and Higher Education level and can interact with the apprenticeship system. Increasingly, vocational education can be recognized in terms of recognition of prior learning and partial academic credit towards tertiary education (e.g. at a university) as credit. Vocational training is therefore a link between education and the working world.
Apprenticeship programs are occupational training programs that combine on-the-job work experience with technical or classroom study.
